About the role

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Procures blood samples via venous and capillary techniques from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
  • Utilizes the Laboratory Information System to activate, order, and result laboratory orders from providers.
  • Edits patients on the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool, and sputum.
  • Reviews orders from providers, ensuring accuracy in ordering tests; may call provider's offices to obtain orders.
  • Processes specimens appropriately, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
  • Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, completing the required paperwork and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner.
  • Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
  • Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing, and daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance.
  • Works together as a team in a fast-paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist, or other healthcare studies preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
  • Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Possesses a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.

Skills

  • Proficient in venous and capillary blood sample procurement.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory Information System.
  • Ability to review and edit patient specimen collection procedures.
  • Experience with STAT specimen processing and transportation.
  • Basic understanding of CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology.
