Lab Support Technician I-Weekend
About the role
The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team, acting in a support capacity for reports, data, and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position provides accurate, timely, and effective laboratory support while exhibiting excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service for all internal and external customer interactions.
The LST I is responsible for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, and professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The role includes processing, transport, and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required.
To achieve the competencies of the LST I position, the coworker must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, timely, and effective laboratory support for reports, data, and scheduling functions.
- Exhibit excellent customer service skills in all interactions, adhering to Mercy Signature Service standards.
- Acquire laboratory specimens for testing using safe, accurate, and professional methodologies while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
- Process, transport, and refer all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required.
- Complete departmental checklists and demonstrate competencies under the observation of laboratory management or designee.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
- Successful completion of probationary period.
- No active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- College-level courses in Chemistry, Biology, or other sciences.
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory.
