About the role
Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.
Responsibilities
- Procures blood samples via venous and capillary techniques from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
- Utilizes the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers.
- Edits orders from providers, ensuring accuracy in ordering tests; may call provider offices to obtain orders.
- Processes specimens appropriately, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
- Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, completing the required paperwork and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork.
- Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
- Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing, and daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance.
- Works together as a team in a fast-paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.
Requirements
- Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist, or other healthcare studies preferred.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
- Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.
Skills
- Proficient in venous and capillary blood sample procurement.
- Knowledge of the Laboratory Information System.
- Ability to process and store specimens accurately.
- Experience with STAT specimen processing and transportation.
- Knowledge of CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology.
