Location: Chicago, Illinois – Rush University Medical Center, Eye Center

Full-time position (0.9–1.0 FTE) on Shift 1, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM.

About the Role

Performs clinic activities including answering telephones, patient and visitor reception, administrative office duties, and Health Information Management responsibilities. Exemplifies the Rush Mission, Vision and Values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of office functions: retrieval and distribution of incoming/outgoing mail, faxes, filing, stocking supplies, and preparation of clinic correspondence.
  • Completes Epic Administrative In-Box tasks as directed.
  • Accesses EPIC to retrieve referrals, orders, and other documentation.
  • Assists patients with Release of Information requests.
  • Maintains and retrieves medical records per HIM and office protocol.
  • Handles patient calls efficiently and courteously, taking accurate messages for clinical staff.
  • Schedules, cancels, and reschedules patient appointments; places reminder calls or sends pre-appointment information.
  • Transfers patients to pre-registration for insurance verification.
  • Prepares and disseminates patient letters and other correspondence from EPIC.
  • Problem-solves by seeking appropriate resources and collaborates as part of the medical practice team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to utilize EPIC efficiently.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Sensitivity to patient health information and protection of confidentiality.
  • Ability to sit for several hours daily and remain professional under stressful situations.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Must pass the EPIC scheduling test within 45 days of training completion (3 attempts allowed).
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical office experience.

Pay

Pay range: $18.87 – $29.73 per hour. Salaries are determined by education, job-related experience, skills, internal equity, and industry-specific market data. Offers may vary based on individual circumstances.
