About the role
The Clinical Instructor (Autism Specialist) position is a non-teaching role that provides support services to individuals with autism diagnoses. It requires experience in public schools and direct work with families, educators, and individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide multi-tiered support to registered individuals with ASD, families, or caregivers, and those who educate and support them within their communities.
- Facilitate training, coaching, and the development of a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) plan through collaboration with team members.
- Develop and implement individualized skill development programs across home, community, and school settings with an emphasis on improving quality of life.
- Develop and provide training on PBS and special topics related to autism for registered families, educators, and community partners of the WV ATC.
- Conduct assessments of behavior and skills including functional assessments.
- Use experimental research designs to make data-driven autism program decisions.
- Design assessments of current levels of functioning of individuals with autism.
- Prepare written reports of project results for presentations and publications in professional journals and newsletters.
- Develop and provide presentations on autism for state and national audiences.
Requirements
- Knowledge of functional assessment and single-case research design.
- Ability to design research to determine motivating variables for challenging behavior.
- Experience in public schools.
- Experience working directly with families, educators, and individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field.
- Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
- Experience in developing and implementing individualized skill development programs.
- Experience conducting functional assessments and designing research to determine motivating variables for challenging behavior.
- Experience in providing training on PBS and special topics related to autism.
- Experience in preparing written reports and presenting at state and national audiences.
