About the role

The Clinical Social Worker II or Clinical Social Worker III (LCSW) provides psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, brief therapeutic interventions, consultation, education, community linkages, supportive services, and facilitates the plan of care through the health care continuum for patients, families, and staff, with a focus on high-risk populations. The CSW II/III acts as a consultant to the clinical team, service lines, and other departments, and participates in program development and quality improvement initiatives.

The CSW II/III delivers therapeutic support to patients and families at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland, coordinates resources and services to address psychosocial needs, and collaborates with care team members to ensure timely and safe discharges or meet continuum of care needs within fiscal realities.

The CSW III is distinguished by advanced clinical knowledge, leadership in program planning, provision of educational programs, clinical supervision, and consultation to teams and the community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
• Provide counseling, brief therapeutic interventions, and supportive services.
• Consult with clinical teams, service lines, and other departments.
• Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate resources and services to meet patients’ psychosocial needs.
• Collaborate with care teams to support timely and safe discharges or continuum of care.
• Engage in department education and practice improvement activities.
• For CSW III: Lead advanced program planning, deliver educational programs, provide clinical supervision, and offer consultation to teams and the community.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from a CSWE-accredited school of Social Work.
• Current California State License of Clinical Social Work in good standing (required for CSW III).
• Experience (internship or career) in healthcare, mental health, and/or child protection working with children and families.
• Experience in crisis de-escalation and trauma-informed care.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, and organizational and analytic skills.
• Self-directed, assertive, and creative problem-solving in a high-volume work environment.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in text/pager, telephone, and computer skills, including internet use.
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with pediatric patients.
• Proficiency in Spanish (second language).
