Client/Lab Associate – Oncology I position in Lewisville, TX.

About the role

This role provides general support functions within the Oncology department, including processing test orders for Oncology specimens. It is critical to quality, customer satisfaction, and Oncology White Glove Services. The position requires understanding compliance regulations related to Oncology test ordering.

Schedule

Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Pay

Pay range: $18.39 - $27.58 per hour. Salary offers consider relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market factors, and organizational factors. Eligible candidates may receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all functions with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness, emphasizing quality
  • Handle paraffin tissue blocks/slides and other Oncology specimens, including bone marrow aspirates, bone marrow core/clots, and other irreplaceable tissue specimens
  • Identify Oncology specimens in kit boxes, purple irreplaceable bags, or red bags
  • Open and sort specimens according to priority following established protocol for Quality Check of blocks
  • Process samples in multiple systems and identify if the order is electronic, manual, swivel chair, or shared
  • Capture images of blocks received and scan images into the document repository
  • Handle complex test orders, identify problems, and resolve simple Oncology issues using established protocol
  • Understand compliance policies related to test ordering and research test ordering information on request forms and computer systems
  • Investigate and search for missing specimens in the department, including trash checks
  • Communicate professionally both verbally and in writing
  • Learn job duties and understand how all Oncology processing functions align
  • Comply with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices; use personal protective equipment
  • Participate in process improvement
  • Prepare blocks to be returned to the client, if requested
  • Pull problem reports and work on final accessioning of problem samples, if requested
  • Distribute H&Es to pathologists, if requested
  • Scan test requisitions into Optimaxx, if requested
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of lab experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Some college courses (2-3 years preferred)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to type 30 words per minute and use ten-key
  • Some experience in Excel preferred
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive environment
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology helpful

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Able to transport samples to and from various departments
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 10-20 lbs
  • Detail-oriented with good judgment in resolving problems
