ClickHouse Solutions Engineer

About the role

Altinity is looking for elite database support engineers who can guide users around the globe in building ClickHouse applications. We seek candidates who have delivered analytic applications in production environments, operated ClickHouse clusters at petabyte scale, and are intensely curious about database technology and ClickHouse optimization.

Responsibilities

• Support (75% of the time)
  • Advise on building production-grade systems based on ClickHouse: schema design, cluster planning, etc.
  • Work across environments from single-node setups to clusters with 100s of nodes, including Altinity.Cloud
  • Engage with the community via GitHub, Stack Overflow, and Telegram
• Research and development (25% of the time)
  • Study new usage patterns, ClickHouse functions, and integrations with other products
  • Write technical articles for the Altinity blog and internal knowledge base
  • Work on infrastructure projects related to ClickHouse
  • Improve ClickHouse itself: fix bugs, improve documentation, create test cases, etc.

Qualifications

• Required
  • Hands-on experience with ClickHouse
  • Expert-level SQL knowledge from one of: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server
  • Strong Linux shell and bash scripting skills
  • Production-grade systems operations experience
  • Technical English writing and speaking proficiency
  • Docker/Kubernetes “self-defense” skills
  • Basic understanding of distributed systems and big data technology stacks
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, C++, Java, Go)
  • University degree in IT/math or equivalent experience
• Significant pluses
  • Kubernetes knowledge and operational experience
  • Experience with big data stack components (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NiFi, etc.)
  • Data science or data analysis background
  • SRE/DevOps stacks (Prometheus, Ansible, ELK, etc.)
  • Git version control
