Summary of Duties

Performs highly complex clerical work and/or supervises and participates in performing complex clerical work; may perform skilled typing and/or keyboarding work; and performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of general clerical experience involving performance of a variety of clerical tasks, demonstrating knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, compare words and numbers quickly and accurately; operate various kinds of office equipment and technologies.
  • Supervisory aptitude, demonstrated through successful completion of assignments involving some supervisory responsibilities, serving as a group or team leader, completion of training courses in supervision, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.

Non-Qualifying Experience

Experience limited to simple and repetitious clerical work primarily involving a short cycle of tasks and manual dexterity is not qualifying. Examples include wrapping/unwrapping articles, opening envelopes, affixing tags/labels, arranging office desks, delivering correspondence, or similar tasks.

Selective Certification Requirements

  • Typing and/or keyboarding skills (40 net words per minute) and/or ability to use typewriters, computers, word processing, or other software applications may be required for some positions.
  • For certain positions, a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle is required.

Substitutions Allowed

  • Graduation from high school may substitute for six (6) months of general clerical experience.
  • Education at an accredited community college, business, or technical school in a clerical curriculum may substitute for general clerical experience at a rate of 15 semester hours for six (6) months of experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • Education at an accredited community college or university in a baccalaureate program may substitute for general clerical experience at a rate of 15 semester hours for six (6) months of experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement

For positions involving contact with detainees in juvenile facilities, lockups, prisons, jails, or community confinement facilities, applicants must not have:

  • Engaged in sexual abuse in such institutions;
  • Been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity facilitated by force, threats, or coercion, or where the victim did not or could not consent;
  • Been civilly or administratively adjudicated for such conduct;
  • Been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of such allegations.
