Cleaning Technician I

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies using appropriate equipment.
• Dust furniture and equipment.
• Sanitize restrooms including all fixtures, tile surfaces, partitions, and doorknobs.
• Polish metalwork such as fixtures and fittings.
• Wash walls, woodwork, windows, and sills.
• Empty wastebaskets and transport trash to disposal area.
• Replenish bathroom, facility, and cleaning supplies throughout campus.
• Provide supply inventory to supervisor to assist with reorders.
• Break down and set up rooms and event space as needed.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform floor care custodial cleaning as needed.
• Remove snow and debris from campus as needed.
• Report needed maintenance and repairs to supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• General cleaning knowledge; ability to understand written directions and follow instructions on Material Safety Data Sheets for chemical use.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to perform cleaning and maintenance related duties for at least 9 hours per day.
• Ability to work continuously at times on uneven surfaces.
• Must be able to tolerate weather conditions such as extreme heat and cold.
• Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, and/or working at heights, on a ladder, on a raised platform, outside or near a window.
• Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• In addition to regular hours, this position may require overtime, evening and weekend work hours, and on-call hours in case of an emergency or in the regular course of college business.

Licensing Requirement

• Must be licensed driver in NC with safe driving history.

Working Conditions and Environment

• Work is performed in all types of weather conditions, around hazardous chemicals, standing/walking for majority of assigned shift.
• Ability to stand and walk on campus for a 9-hour shift.
• Assignments are campus-wide and moves between locations.
• Some locations may not have heating or air conditioning.
