About the role
The Clay Bird Department Assistant supports the Clay Bird Manager in all aspects of operations, ensuring a safe and enjoyable shooting environment for all Members and guests. This role requires interpersonal skills and attention to detail while maintaining inventory levels and an impeccably clean shooting facility.
Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and properly open the Shooting Lodge
- Ensure all common areas are clean and orderly
- Open trap and skeet houses and prepare for shooters
- Check inventory levels of shells and targets, restocking as necessary
- Greet and assist all Members and guests in a courteous and professional manner
- Promote clay target shooting with a positive and enthusiastic attitude
- Provide instruction in all phases of target shooting, including Trap, Skeet, International Trap, Auto Trap, Sub Trap, Five Stand, and Quail Walk
- Communicate with the Clay Bird Manager regarding inventory levels to facilitate timely target and shell deliveries
- Ensure accurate and prompt billing for Member and guest transactions
- Report any mechanical issues with shooting equipment to the Department Manager, including:
- Four skeet traps
- Four traps
- Fifteen international traps
- Two sub-traps
- Eight Five Stand traps
- Thirty-five Quail Walk machines
- Aid in the maintenance of Club rental guns and necessary equipment such as mowers for shooting ground upkeep
- Help instruct participants in the Sub-Jr. and Jr. Shooting Clinic
- Participate in the instruction of a Professional Shoot School
- Wear the provided uniform and appropriate safety gear as required
- Maintain clean and safe workspaces for both Members and employees
- Work towards certification through a recognized shooting organization (preferably NSCA) to enhance shooting and instructional skills
- Maintain open communication with the Sports and Recreation Director regarding department operations and needs
- Report regularly to Clay Bird Shooting Manager on departmental performance, Member satisfaction, and areas for improvement
- Communicate with Club Membership professionally and effectively to ensure the high quality of service is consistently met
- Collect and analyze Member feedback to continuously improve service offerings and ensure the highest standard of Member satisfaction
Qualifications
- CPR & First Aid certified
- Pennsylvania safety certification
- Strong knowledge of firearm safety through approved safety courses
- Must possess excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Following guidance and direction from senior management effectively, efficiently, and appropriately
Skills
- Ability to operate a Club vehicle safely and responsibly
- Proficient in Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Fundamental time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work, both with a team and independently
- Strong foundational communication abilities, such as interpersonal skills, hospitality, meticulousness and dedication to Member experience
- Exhibits good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to problem solve and react quickly to any issues which arise during a shift
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all Members and Club information
- Ability to work cohesively with other departments
- Ability to prioritize, organize and follow up
- Strong organizational and planning skills
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours consistently)
- Requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions, with exposure to temperatures ranging from extreme heat to cold, rain, and snow
- Availability and understanding that the position often requires hours in excess of a standard workweek (40-50 hours)
- Dexterity to handle hunting equipment, firearms, and other tools safely and effectively
