Classroom Music Teacher

Full-time elementary school music (vocal) teaching position at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Houston, Texas. Available August 1, 2026.

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the music teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing Archdiocesan-approved curriculum. The role involves documenting teaching and student progress, addressing individual educational needs, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong classroom management, pedagogically sound vocal instruction, keyboard proficiency, and a passion for inspiring young vocalists.

Responsibilities

• Participates in school/church activities as required by the position.
• Engages in ongoing faith formation opportunities offered by the parish and school.
• Develops and administers elementary music curriculum consistent with Archdiocesan goals and objectives.
• Promotes a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging learning experiences.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
• Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subjects as specified by applicable laws and school policies.
• Stays current with developments in education by attending seminars, workshops, or conducting research.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
• Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Coordinates with other elementary staff to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies, maintaining inventory records.
• Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities, including those involving transportation.
• Administers standardized tests in accordance with Archdiocesan testing programs.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or Catholic Schools Office administrators.

Requirements

• Texas State Certification as an Elementary Teacher.
• Texas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
• Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
• Familiarity with data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Proficiency in using computer network systems and software applications.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
