CLASSROOM MONITOR

About the Role

To create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and to provide positive educational experiences for all students.

Responsibilities

• Have a minimum of 180 student days of employment during the school year, minus any days of absence.
• Report to the specified school each day; if the specified school does not need a substitute teacher, report to a school in the zone that does.
• Assume the student supervision responsibilities of the regular teacher.
• Accurately report homeroom attendance in accordance with the procedures at the assigned school.
• Maintain good classroom control, discipline, and management.
• Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher and develop lesson plans, where appropriate, approved by the department head or team leader.
• Teach up to a maximum of seven (7) periods per day.
• Participate in Innovation Zone activities during the regular workday if required by the Principal.
• Administer discipline in accordance with Florida Statutes, regulations of the State Board, and policies of the School Board (corporal punishment is forbidden).
• Be familiar with the assigned school's procedures (e.g., bell schedule, fire drill procedures, school discipline plan).
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Qualifications

• Earned sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited institution.
• Attend and complete the Substitute Teacher Training Workshop during the current school year (full year to complete).
• Must qualify for a Broward County Substitute Teaching Certificate.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• Bilingual skills.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
