CLASSROOM MONITOR

Location: Piper High, Sunrise

About the Role

To create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and to provide positive educational experiences for all students.

Responsibilities

• Have a minimum of 180 student days of employment during the school year, minus any days of absence.
• Report to the specified school each day; if the specified school does not need a substitute teacher, report to a school in the zone which does need one.
• Assume the student supervision responsibilities of the regular teacher.
• Be responsible for accurately reporting homeroom attendance in accordance with the procedures at the assigned school.
• Maintain good classroom control, discipline, and management.
• Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher and develop lesson plans, where appropriate, approved by the department head or the team leader.
• Teach up to a maximum of seven (7) periods per day.
• Classroom Monitor may be required by the Principal to participate in Innovation Zone activities during the regular workday.
• Administer discipline in accordance with Florida Statutes, regulations of the State Board, and policies of the School Board (corporal punishment is forbidden).
• Be familiar with assigned school's procedures (e.g., bell schedule, fire drill procedures, school discipline plan).
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Requirements

• Earned sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited institution.
• Attend and complete the Substitute Teacher Training Workshop during the current school year (Classroom Monitor will have the full year to complete this training).
• Must qualify for a Broward County Substitute Teaching Certificate.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• Bilingual skills.

• Temporary/Substitute position.
• Work calendar aligns with the School Board's established schedule (180 student days per school year).
