Classroom Behavior Specialist

About the Role

In collaboration with the classroom team, you will assist the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social-emotional programming for assigned students. Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the classroom team, assist in the formulation and implementation of social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
• Support students with activities of daily life, such as toileting and other forms of self-care.
• Collect and manage data on social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Prepare and present verbal and/or written reports concerning social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Assist in the implementation of academic and social-emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
• Provide academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Prepare and submit required paperwork for student records.
• Attend and participate in classroom team meetings, supervisory sessions, staff meetings, and other student-related meetings as assigned.
• Observe all Bradley Schools policies, rules, and regulations.
• Perform other duties as required, assigned, or directed.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
• Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel (training provided if needed).
• Prior experience working with children is helpful.
• Ability to perform independently within department policies and practices, referring complex problems to a supervisor when needed.
• Ability to work in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions, including care for psychiatrically impaired, aggressive, and sometimes self-injurious students.
• Must utilize de-escalation techniques to minimize the need for physical intervention and remain calm during crisis situations.
• Ability to make quick, rational decisions and prioritize immediate student care needs to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure safety.
• Must be able to participate in the physical management of students, including safe body positioning, blocking and deflecting aggression, and physically holding struggling students using approved methods for extended periods.
• Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to fifty pounds, reach with hands and arms, grasp and hold, bend/squat/kneel without limitation, and physically escort combative students for short distances.
• Position requires occasional running for short distances and frequent standing, walking, and sitting.

Pay

$19.03–$31.39 per hour.
