Classroom Behavior Specialist

About the role

In collaboration with the classroom team, assists the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social-emotional programming for assigned students.

Location: LSS‑Cumberland‑7 Fatima Drive, 7 Fatima Drive, Cumberland, RI 02864

Responsibilities

• Assists in the formulation and implementation of social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs, including support with activities of daily living such as toileting and self‑care.
• Collects and manages data on social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Prepares and presents verbal and/or written reports concerning social-emotional and behavioral functioning.
• Assists in implementation of the academic and social‑emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
• Provides academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Prepares and submits required paperwork for student records.
• Attends and participates in classroom team meetings, student‑related meetings, supervisory sessions, and staff meetings as assigned.
• Observes all Bradley Schools policies, rules and regulations.
• Performs other duties as required, assigned, or directed.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
• Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel; training provided if needed.
• Bradley Hospital Safety Care Certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Prior experience working with children is helpful.
• Ability to work in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions, utilizing de‑escalation techniques and participating in physical management of students when needed.
• Physical capabilities: lift up to 50 lb, reach, grasp, bend/squat/kneel, escort students, and occasional running for short distances; frequent standing, walking, and sitting.

Pay

$19.03 – $31.39 per hour.
