Classroom Behavior Specialist

About the role

In collaboration with the classroom team, you will assist the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social-emotional programming for assigned students. Responsibilities

• Assist in the formulation and implementation of social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
• Support students with activities of daily life such as toileting and other forms of self-care.
• Collect and manage data on social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Prepare and present verbal and/or written reports concerning social-emotional and behavioral functioning.
• Assist in implementation of the academic and social-emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
• Provide academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Prepare and submit required paperwork for the student record.
• Attend and participate in classroom team meetings, supervisory sessions, staff meetings, and other student-related meetings as assigned.
• Observe all Bradley Schools policies, rules, and regulations.
• Perform other duties as required, assigned, or directed.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
• Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel (training provided if needed).
• Bradley Hospital Safety Care Certification.
• Prior experience working with children is helpful.
• Ability to work independently within department policies and practices, referring complex problems to a supervisor when needed.
• Ability to work in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions, utilizing de-escalation techniques to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure safety.
• Ability to remain calm during crisis situations, make quick rational decisions, and prioritize immediate student care needs.
• Physical ability to participate in the management of students, including:
  • Lifting up to fifty pounds.
  • Reaching, grasping, and holding with hands.
  • Bending, squatting, and kneeling without limitation.
  • Physically holding struggling students using approved methods for extended periods.
  • Occasional running for short distances.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.

Pay

$19.03–$31.39 per hour.

Schedule

• Work Type: School days.
• Work Shift: Day.
