About the role
Classroom aide provides support for the full-time teacher, helping them with clerical work and classroom activities. This can involve providing individual attention to students in need of extra assistance or monitoring students in small groups. A classroom aide's job is to assist a teacher and reinforce the instruction taught in the classroom to students.
Responsibilities
- Create a positive rapport with children with mutual respect.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment and demonstrations.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, playground and gymnasium.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
- Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Provide extra assistance to students who may need additional support.
- Reinforce school and classroom rules.
Qualifications
- Minimum GED or a high school diploma and some on-the-job training.
- Preferred: An Associate's Degree or higher education.
Schedule
9 months working 4-5 days for a total of 25-29 hours a week.
