About the role

5-day, 6.5-hour position with shift time 8:25 AM – 3:25 PM.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • “ESEA Highly Qualified” status by one of the following:
    • Associate degree preferred, but high school diploma/GED acceptable.
    • Completed at least two years of study (48 semester or 72 quarter hours) verified by an accredited college transcript; or
    • Associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution; or
    • Passed the Ohio Department of Education-approved Praxis exam for Paraprofessionals.

Personal qualities

  • Capable of physically assisting students with special needs (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others.
  • Willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position.
  • Support the district’s Mission Statement.
  • Professional behavior and speech.
  • Model good example in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Attend required staff, team meetings, and training.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under classroom teachers’ direction.
  • Implement and monitor progress on Individual Education Plans.
  • Provide support inside and outside the classroom so students can fully participate.
  • Collaborate with speech therapists, counselors, occupational and physical therapists.
  • Maintain student records as directed.
  • Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and help develop appropriate social skills.
  • Assist with toileting and hygiene needs.
  • Provide general duties when the assigned student is absent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
