Shared Attendant position at Logan-Hocking Middle School, supporting 2nd–6th grade students with special needs.

Schedule

  • 5-day work week, 6.5 hours per day
  • Anticipated shift: 7:15 AM – 2:15 PM

Qualifications

Attendants must be at least 18 years of age and “ESEA Highly Qualified” by meeting one of the following:

  • High school diploma or GED (associate degree preferred); or
  • Completed at least two years of study (48 semester or 72 quarter hours) verified by a college transcript from an accredited institution; or
  • Obtained an associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution; or
  • Passed the Praxis exam for Paraprofessionals as approved by the Ohio Department of Education.

Desirable Personal Qualities

  • Capable of physically assisting students with special needs (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
  • Willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position
  • Support the Mission Statement of the district
  • Behave and speak in a professional manner
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance
  • Attend required staff, team meetings, and training
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers
  • Implement Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation in activities
  • Collaborate with other professionals (speech therapists, counselors, occupational and physical therapists)
  • Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records
  • Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and help develop appropriate social skills
  • Assist with toileting and hygiene needs of students
  • Perform general duties when the student is absent
  • Conduct other duties as assigned

  • Intervention Specialists

Job Goal

The job goal or duties may vary or be amended to meet the needs of the student. Special education attendants work under the overall supervision of the building principal with direct supervision provided by the intervention specialists. They are employed to implement special education or related services for a student and/or to provide direct assistance to a student. Duties vary depending on the age of students served and the nature and severity of the student's disabilities.
