Classification Caseworker (#017299) Leath Correctional Institution, Greenwood (GREENWOOD) Level 2

About the Role

This position involves evaluating inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, employment, and treatment programs. You will coordinate and implement an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates, conducting periodic reviews and evaluating inmate progress.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate inmate records for eligibility in institutional assignment, custody changes, employment, and treatment programs.
• Coordinate and implement an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conduct periodic reviews and evaluate inmate progress.
• Interview inmates and discuss/record progress on a periodic basis.
• Counsel inmates regarding general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Respond orally and/or in writing to inquiries about inmates from departmental officials and other agencies.
• Operate the SCDC computer system to access inmate social, criminal, educational, and family histories.
• May serve as the Institutional Records Manager.
• Successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

• A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
• A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required related experience.
• Additional SCDC Minimum Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree; or
  • An associate’s degree and any one (1) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience; or
  • A high school diploma and any two (2) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
