About the Role
Drivers run daily routes with frequent stops, loading packages onto hand trucks and unloading product at each designated stop. The role operates within a cross-dock model, picking up a loaded truck from a nightly delivery and returning the empty truck at the end of the route. Occasional assistance with loading trucks, palletizing product, or other duties may be required.
Responsibilities
- Run routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times.
- Unload product from trailer by hand or using a hand cart, placing it in designated customer storage areas, including navigating ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions.
- Frequently lift, push, or move product weighing 1-75 pounds (up to 100 pounds); reach up to 72” to stack/unstack pallets and hand carts; and constantly bend/twist while loading/unloading.
- Verify delivery of items with customers, obtain signatures, and report discrepancies or errors/returns to management.
- Report undelivered items ("shorts") and handle customer complaints professionally.
- Operate company equipment properly, follow driver safety rules, and perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections per DOT regulations and company policies.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- One year of route delivery experience or equivalent driving experience with a straight truck.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License – Class B (Class A preferred).
- Ability to read and speak English sufficiently for public communication, traffic signs, official inquiries, and record-keeping.
Skills
- Operate vehicles in diverse traffic and weather conditions.
- Meet or exceed productivity and accuracy goals (e.g., cases per error).
- Strong customer relations, problem resolution, and independent work planning.
- Knowledge of product/inventory control techniques and inter-department communication.
- Basic arithmetic skills; experience handling money is a plus.
- Demonstrated adaptability, trust-building, follow-up, and communication.
Other Information
- Frequent lifting of product up to 50 lbs. during the shift; occasional lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to climb on/off the truck box, bend, squat, push, pull, and work in confined spaces.
