About the role
Interstate Waste Services is now hiring CDL B Commercial Roll Off Truck Drivers in Shelton, CT. Safety is our top priority.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate front, side, or rear-loading trucks for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
- Transport the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycling facility, making one or more trips throughout the shift.
- Deploy both manual and automatic trucks.
- May be required to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, move and maneuver up to 100 pounds, and mount and dismount the truck multiple times per route.
- Navigate through congested communities and confined or tight areas in city locations, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers.
- Routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts.
- Perform driver pre and post-inspections to ensure compliance with IWS's safety standards, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
- Work routes that may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work, as allowed under DOT regulation.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement.
- One year of CDL driving experience within the last seven years.
- Great safety record and clean motor vehicle report (MVR).
- Experience as a driver or helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
- Ability to speak and read English to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
- Read and understand a map.
- Meet physical and safety requirements of the position.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement.
