About the role

Interstate Waste Services is now hiring CDL B Commercial Roll Off Truck Drivers in Shelton, CT. Safety is our top priority.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate front, side, or rear-loading trucks for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
  • Transport the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycling facility, making one or more trips throughout the shift.
  • Deploy both manual and automatic trucks.
  • May be required to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, move and maneuver up to 100 pounds, and mount and dismount the truck multiple times per route.
  • Navigate through congested communities and confined or tight areas in city locations, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers.
  • Routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts.
  • Perform driver pre and post-inspections to ensure compliance with IWS's safety standards, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Work routes that may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work, as allowed under DOT regulation.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement.
  • One year of CDL driving experience within the last seven years.
  • Great safety record and clean motor vehicle report (MVR).
  • Experience as a driver or helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Ability to speak and read English to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Read and understand a map.
  • Meet physical and safety requirements of the position.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement.
