Class A Delivery Driver - SYGMA - Baltimore, MD

Come join the SYGMA Pennsylvania Team at our Baltimore MD location. Our Delivery Drivers run 2 to 4 routes per week, with routes out no more than 36 hours.

Pay

Drivers earn $90,000 to $95,000 per year. Top earners make up to $150,000 through our formula: Route Pay + Incentives = SYGMA Top Dollars.

Schedule

• Evening dispatch, Sunday – Friday
• Overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed to meet customer needs

About the role

To serve our customers by safely and efficiently transporting products from the warehouse by driving a tractor trailer to various customers and properly delivering and unloading products according to customer invoices and company standards. Routes are dedicated and may be driven solo or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport product from the warehouse to customer locations, ensuring timely delivery according to assigned routes.
• Unload product from trailer by hand or using a hand cart, navigating ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions, and place in designated customer storage areas.
• Pick up, load, and unload damaged goods and customer returns, transporting them back to the SYGMA warehouse.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including DOT electronic or manual logs, inspections, vehicle maintenance reports, pre- and post-trip reports, invoices, and reports of damages or shortages.
• Ensure all food safety protocols are followed, including maintaining proper temperatures in the delivery vehicle, inspecting product for visible damages, and preventing cross-contamination during delivery and storage.
• Maintain sanitary conditions in the tractor, trailer, warehouse, and yard.
• Follow preferred work methods and report any unsafe conditions to management immediately.
• Safely operate assigned equipment, including hand carts, pallets, load bars, SLS units, and personal protective equipment.
• Develop and maintain good customer relationships through excellent and courteous service with clear communication.
• Communicate with management regarding route deviations, trailer or loading issues, and customer or product concerns.
• Safely transport backhauled and line-hauled products, ensuring correct and timely delivery.
• Work assigned schedule and additional hours as needed to meet customer needs, exhibiting regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent degree. Completion of a tractor trailer driving school may substitute for or supplement this requirement.
• 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience preferred.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of employment.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to understand traffic signs, respond to inquiries, and complete reports.

Skills

• Knowledge of: DOT regulations, Hazmat guidelines, safe lifting and delivery practices.
• Skill in: Driving long distances over varied terrains and weather conditions, communicating with customers, solving problems, and delivering product.
• Ability to:
  • Drive a tractor-trailer unit day or night in various traffic and weather conditions while remaining alert.
  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels.
  • Handle hazardous materials and food items (frozen, dry, and refrigerated).
  • Operate a 3-axle tractor, 45' - 48' trailer, straight truck, on-board computer, keypad, and 2-wheel hand cart.
  • Perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Plan and organize work activities independently.
  • Solve problems effectively.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to lift, push, or move product weighing up to 50 pounds by hand and push/pull up to 350 pounds using a 2-wheeled hand cart.
• Climb in and out of a tractor and trailer, reach to stack and unstack pallets and hand carts, and bend and twist while loading and unloading product.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions, as well as moving mechanical parts and confined spaces.
• Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
