About the role

This is an entry-level driver-training position. The trainee learns to drive a tractor-trailer or straight truck on intrastate and/or interstate routes—local, over-the-road, shuttle, or overnight—to deliver and unload food and food-related products. All driving is performed safely in accordance with Company policies and DOT regulations. The trainee interacts professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, functions as a team member, and performs any assigned duty to best serve the company.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and successfully complete PFG Entry-Level Driver Trainee or Dock-to-Driver Training Program; complete all required training documentation.
  • Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip safety checks and inspections of tractor/truck and trailer per DOT regulations and company safety standards; report any safety issues or needed repairs.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe-driving guidelines; immediately report safety hazards.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; perform count checks and verify customer invoices.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to the predetermined route schedule.
  • Unload products from trailer, transport items into designated customer storage areas, and perform damage-control checks.
  • Scan items, contact supervisor about removing orders per company policy, and verify delivery with customer signatures.
  • Collect cash or checks where required; load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors.
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns at driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Unload equipment and materials, remove trash from trailers, and perform general housekeeping in tractor, loading-dock area, and trailers.
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log per federal, state, and company requirements.
  • Secure all equipment and complete all end-of-shift paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Internal PFG candidates: 1 year of service in good standing, ability to attain CDL permit and DOT health card.
  • External candidates: 0–6 months experience with a CDL License (either Driver-School Direct Hire or Entry-Level Hire).
  • Valid CDL A license.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
  • Attain or hold a valid current DOT health card.
  • Able to hand-lift and use two-wheelers, lift gates, or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of 60–90 pounds throughout shift.

Pay
