About the Role
A Route Driver operates a grease collection truck, fat and bone collection truck, and pump truck to collect cooking oil and raw materials from customer locations.
Responsibilities
- Pump or load grease containers; ensure cleanliness of container and surrounding area; return container with screen and lock secured; note any damages to container or corral area; complete route ticket with customer signature.
- Empty customers' grease traps using a company vehicle by pumping trap contents into the vehicle; ensure cleanliness of trap area and clean spilled grease if necessary.
- Collect and inspect raw material at pickup for foreign or hazardous material (Local Runs).
- Maintain an Electronic DOT log.
- Provide customers with a receipt of pickup and obtain a signature from management at the location.
- Maintain and operate the company vehicle in a clean and safe manner, adhering to Company, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct safety checks and inspections of the vehicle; operate under all safety rules and company policies.
- Complete a daily vehicle condition report and all required company paperwork (route tickets, driver vehicle inspection reports, accident reports, mileage reports, service forms, etc.).
- Maintain excellent customer relations by providing quality, professional service.
- Follow established routes as assigned.
- Attend all safety meetings; may serve on the Safety Committee.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Class A CDL with a Tankers Endorsement.
- Registered on FMCSA Clearinghouse.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior route experience within a customer-oriented environment.
- Experience with truck hydraulics.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized with superior time management skills.
- Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Good driving record.
- Ability to work well with internal staff and external customers.
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers).
Physical Demands
- Constantly required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods.
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally push or pull up to 100 lbs.
- Frequently push, pull, move, or lift up to 75 lbs repeatedly.
- Ability to work weekends and/or overtime as needed.
Work Environment
Job functions are carried out in a commercial motor vehicle, at customer locations, and in a plant environment.
