About the role
The primary responsibility of this position is to operate and maintain a clamp truck to transport rolls of paper to the corrugator.
Responsibilities
- Take rolls of paper to the corrugator and record all rolls taken on the proper forms.
- Learn to read corrugator lineups.
- Unload rolls from trailers and/or rail cars, checking for and noting any physical damage to the rolls.
- Operate the clamp truck in a safe manner, completing a clamp truck inspection report at the start of each shift and submitting maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
- Keep the warehouse organized and clean, turning in roll stock tallies to the corrugator supervisor or Scheduling Department.
- Maximize equipment utilization by operating machinery at available capacity and speed.
- Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals.
- Aid the corrugator operator as instructed by supervision.
- Accurately record daily starch checklists and assist in the wet end training of the double backer and dry end personnel.
- Maintain the waste water treatment facility and monitor inventory levels of starch and chemicals.
- Read related MSDS and learn proper responses for emergency chemical spills or skin contact.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry preferred.
- Prior industrial power truck or heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
- Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
- Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
- Able to apply concepts of high school math.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
- A current Lift Truck/Clamp Truck Operator License is required.
