Claims Supervisor - Workers Compensation
Summary/Job Purpose
Provides overall management and technical supervision on selected claims including severity claims and claims that are assigned to WC claims professionals within in the Toyota & MTMUS WC units. Responsible for the implementation and practice of claim handling guidelines and directives as outlined in the various claim manuals, policies and bulletins that will ensure regulatory and company compliance as well as managing customer relationships that will ensure customer retention.
Essential Functions
- Provides claims staff involved with the Toyota & MTMUS WC Programs with updated legal and claim standard practices.
- Offers supervision management on WC claims that are assigned for direct handling at TMMI, TMMMO and other Toyota Claims offices as assigned.
- Ensures coverage, analysis, and decisions regarding the extension or denial of insurance coverage are appropriately evaluated and communicated to policyholders.
- Ensures that case reserves on assigned oversight cases are maintained at an adequate level that is reflective of what the company may pay in indemnity or loss adjustment expense.
- Direct handles Complex WC claims during periods of high claim volume and is supervised by the WC Claims VP.
- Affords assistance in ensuring staff compliance with claim policies, claim manuals and procedures, Special Claim Handling Instructions, and litigation management and claim handling procedures.
- Participates in education and orientation programs, including the development of claim training material. Includes providing education and mentoring support to the respective Toyota & MTMUS WC Claim offices as assigned.
- Maintains a good rapport and business relationship with Japanese Marketing staff and MSMM Underwriting units to ensure harmony and understanding between the WC unit and other disciplines.
- Participates in respective WC Claim Review & Stewardship Meetings as assigned with the respective Toyota/MTMUS Plants, TMNA & Aon LA.
- Assists in reviewing WC Claim Summaries for content and plan of action appropriateness prior to scheduled WC Claim Review Meetings.
- Is proficient in using MSMM Risk Console RMIS Tool, CRS, and Tableau (MSMM will provide training).
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree & Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university is preferred.
- Experience: 6-10 years of previous WC claims experience, including Complex claims experience. 2+ years at a management / supervisory experience required.
