About the role
Responsible for screening and thoroughly investigating multi-line/multi-state commercial automobile losses to determine liability, identify coverage exposures, and negotiate settlements. This role handles a pending caseload of commercial automobile claims involving Collision, Other Than Collision, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage, Med-Pay, Bodily Injury, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist. Frequent oral and written communication with customers, claimants, and attorneys is required, ensuring timely and professional interactions. Compliance with state-specific Department of Insurance regulations and the company’s privacy and data security policies is mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong telephone customer service skills and empathize with customers and claimants.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet productivity goals for pending claims.
- Work both independently and in a team environment.
- Document and preserve all verbal or written communication activity in the claim system.
- Establish and maintain proper loss reserves.
- Conduct in-house investigations, order police reports, ISO filings, and assign field assignments to company-approved appraisers and/or independent adjusters.
- Attend necessary meetings or appearances on assigned claims as directed or approved by a Supervisor.
- Evaluate 1st and 3rd party injury claims and negotiate settlements within assigned authority.
- Prepare Serious Loss Report (SLR) on claims with loss exposure of $300K or greater.
- Provide detailed instructions to company-approved business partners, emphasizing expense control on all claims.
- Prepare file transfer requests to Litigation Specialists when insured is served with Summons & Complaint.
- Maintain compliance with Department of Insurance regulations for the involved jurisdiction.
- Keep Supervisor advised of significant developments in claims.
- Respond timely to inquiries from brokers, agents, insureds, claimants, attorneys, outside business partners, or internal TMM staff.
- Pursue all subrogation opportunities when appropriate.
- Process total loss vehicles with the company salvage buyer in a timely manner.
- Attend all company-sponsored training as scheduled.
- Comply with proper internal controls to conduct job functions and administrative activities.
Requirements
- College degree preferred.
- At least two (2) years of claims handling experience (automobile preferred).
- Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge of commercial auto policy and coverage (preferred).
- Knowledge of tort law in various jurisdictions and motor vehicle law (preferred).
- Ability to negotiate claim settlements in a timely and reasonable fashion.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Works independently under general supervision; work is reviewed for overall adequacy and accuracy.
- Makes decisions related to a wide variety of situations within management limits.
- Develops solutions to a variety of problems, typically of moderate scope and complexity.
- Subrogation and arbitration experience.
Pay
Salary range: $55,000 to $65,000. Ultimate salary offered will be based on factors such as applicant experience and geographic location.
