About the role

BHSI seeks an experienced Complex Claims Professional to join our Casualty claims team in the New York office. This role is ideal for practicing lawyers transitioning from a law firm or claim professionals with casualty claims experience. The position offers the opportunity to handle all facets of Casualty claims in a collaborative, best-in-class environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage and adjust Casualty claims impacting primary and excess policies, ensuring high customer service and technical claim file quality.
• Proactively handle claims from first notice of loss through resolution, advising internal partners and meeting with clients and brokers.
• Collaborate with the insured and broker in the handling and adjudication of claims.
• Analyze policy language, draft coverage letters, and communicate coverage positions effectively.
• Conduct, coordinate, and proactively manage the investigation process to ensure timely resolution of claims.
• Directly monitor assignments to experts and defense counsel as necessary.
• Evaluate coverage, liability, and damages to determine exposure to the insured and the company.
• Draft reports, set reserves within authority, and make recommendations concerning reserve changes.
• Travel to conferences, mediations, customer meetings, and trials as necessary.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience handling Casualty claims, or equivalent.
• Technical competence in handling specialized claims.
• Ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials from various sources.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, investigative, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Experience handling and adjusting claims in multiple jurisdictions; must possess or obtain required adjuster licenses.
• JD preferred.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000, with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation is determined by relevant skills, location, and experience.
