Role and Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate with internal and external customers, including agents, hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices, funeral homes, beneficiaries, and reinsurance companies to request and document information relating to a claim.
- Provide clerical support in the processing of death and health claims.
- Answer telephones, respond to specific questions in the initial claims process, distinguish when to transfer calls, and take detailed messages.
- Thoroughly and efficiently gather customer information to complete new claim requests.
- Set up and maintain paper and electronic filing systems for records, correspondence, and other material.
- Open, read, route, and distribute incoming mail and other material.
- Prepare outgoing correspondence for mailing and distribution.
- Review work done by others to check for correct spelling and grammar.
- Prepare IRS Form 712.
- Enter vouchers as needed to process Statements of Insurance.
- Prepare and distribute outstanding check letters.
- Prepare and distribute claims satisfaction survey cards.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED.
- An associate’s degree and one year of customer service-related experience, or two years of customer service-related experience.
- Basic use of Microsoft Word.
- Ability to type at least 30 words per minute.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to demonstrate respect and compassion in verbal communication.
- Ability to organize multiple duties and projects to complete work in a timely manner.
- Good math skills.
- The ability to function effectively in the workplace as exhibited through one's integrity, courage to act, and communication skills.
- The ability to work with others effectively as exhibited through one's respect for people and commitment to teamwork.
