About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Claims Litigation Manager – Section II. This individual contributor role offers a flexible work environment requiring in-office presence 3 days per week. The position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Chesapeake, VA, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage moderately complex litigation arising from the property contract in compliance with state laws and regulations, including creating defense or settlement strategies.
  • Evaluate, negotiate, and collaborate with defense counsel to secure appropriate resolution of claims.
  • Deliver a concierge level of best-in-class member service through setting expectations, proactive communication, advice, and empathy.
  • Manage litigation involving serious injury or property damage from Section II liability, questionable damages, liability, and coverage issues.
  • Apply intermediate knowledge of claims litigation processes under the Homeowner/Renter Policy Contract/Umbrella.
  • Proactively manage litigation and act as a liaison with members, internal and external counsel.
  • Document litigation strategy, budget, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, settlement, and trial decisions.
  • Represent USAA at mediations, case conferences, and/or trials.
  • Review, audit, and approve legal fees and expenses.
  • Partner with and direct law firm vendors to facilitate timely lawsuit resolution.
  • Hold law firm vendors accountable for following Defense Counsel Litigation Handling Requirements.
  • Recognize and solve routine and intermediate issues arising from legal case management.
  • Follow practices and processes to positively impact quality, timeliness, and effectiveness; identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Interact with members, attorneys, and management to advise on moderately complex litigation.
  • Ensure members receive high levels of service from both yourself and law firm vendors.
  • Act as an informal resource for team members.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of a degree (8 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
  • 4 years of work experience handling liability and first-party claims or progressive experience in litigation.
  • 2 years of customer contact experience.
  • Claims adjuster’s license in assigned state or ability to obtain within 3 months.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience as an effective liaison between partners, members, outside counsel, and management.
  • Knowledge of P&C policies and state laws.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to claims and claims litigation.
  • Experience handling large losses (property or commercial).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of injury litigation case management under the Homeowner/Renter Policy Contract/Umbrella – Personal Injury Section II Coverage.
  • 2 or more years of Commercial/Premise Liability experience.
  • Experience managing moderate to complex litigation cases.
  • Thorough understanding of negligence laws and their application.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $85,040 - $162,550. USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
