About the Role
We are seeking a P&C Adjuster to join our claims management division. This individual is responsible for adjusting intermediate exposure automobile liability and general liability property damage and bodily injury claims, including monitoring defense counsel’s compliance with our best practice litigation handling guidelines, reporting cycles, and budget compliance.
Responsibilities
- Follow Claims Best Practices, defined processes, and quality standards.
- Secure contact with all relevant parties (insured, claimant, witnesses) to investigate liability using applicable state statutes.
- Review claim correspondence and determine appropriate actions.
- Evaluate liability claims and report to excess carriers and reinsurers.
- Review and interpret insurance policies for coverage determination.
- Maintain detailed file notes, timely diary entries, accurate coding, and meet claim closing goals.
- Draft and discuss coverage letters with clients and agents before sending.
- Ensure accurate and timely claim transfers per service plans and guidelines.
- Provide proactive updates to clients, claimants, and insureds.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats.
- Participate in client reviews, teleconferences, and occasional travel for claim reviews.
- Follow through on all committed action items with stakeholders.
- Set and adjust reserves; authorize or deny payments based on claim facts.
- Negotiate settlements effectively, especially in complex cases with defense counsel.
- Identify and execute subrogation opportunities accurately.
- Demonstrate urgency, ownership, and commitment to work.
- Support team and department initiatives.
- Analyze data to solve problems and support implementation of initiatives.
- Promote collaboration and teamwork across departments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related equivalent education.
- Knowledge of common software programs such as Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to complete internal and external reports.
- Strong cost-benefit analysis, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Great customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented and flexible in working with various service plan structures.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2+ years of experience adjusting liability claims preferred, including litigation management.
- Familiarity with handling first-party claims as well as liability claims.
- Multi-jurisdictional tort law and overall federal law experience a plus.
- Experience in reporting key exposures to excess carriers and reinsurers a plus.
- Insurance designations not mandatory but a plus.

Pay
Salary range is $60,000 - $74,000 annually. We typically target the midpoint of our range, and pay will be based on relevant experience.
Schedule
- Full-time, exempt position.
- Core hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (flexibility must be approved by management).
- 37.5 hours per week required to maintain full-time status.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as essential functions demand.
- Hybrid position: 2-3 days per week in our St. Charles, IL headquarters office.
