About the Role

A CS Engineer supports the Civil Structural Architectural (CSA) design team during all phases of industrial capital projects from conceptual design to start-up across AdvanSix plants. This position offers a wide variety of projects to lead, from simple to complex industrial components, such as concrete pads, foundations, steel pipe supports, structural steel support frames and platforms, stairs & ladders, sewers & drainage, paving, architectural building modifications, and more. Most projects are retrofit (brownfield) construction. This position is full-time, direct hire, based out of Hopewell, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Learn, understand, and comply with all plant safety programs, rules, and regulations, including HS&E (Health, Safety, & Environmental) procedures and regulations.
  • Use all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while working in all areas of the plant properly.
  • Ensure design drawings comply with federal, state, local, and plant codes/policies as required.
  • Collaborate with other CSA engineers, designers, and disciplines to create 3D CAD models and design drawings.
  • Utilize or lead CSA designers in AutoCAD and CADWorx Structure software to create 2D & 3D models and drawings for various project designs.
  • Create and navigate Navisworks models.
  • Learn and utilize plant engineering standards and procedures.
  • Conduct site visits for field verification of existing conditions in an operating chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Read and search for existing plant drawings as well as OEM equipment drawings.
  • Review shop drawings from fabricators.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Use Microsoft Office products to communicate with project and plant teams and to create project deliverables.
  • Support plant operations with location and marking of underground utilities.
  • Review process packages and use engineering design and analysis concepts to write scopes of work, material take-offs, and engineering budget hours to meet project requirements.
  • Use applicable codes to properly design and calculate materials for adequate structural capacity.
  • Track and maintain project schedules and engineering hours through Project Web App.
  • Compile data for project reports, collect, calculate, and compile field data, assist proposal efforts as directed, document technical data for management review, and provide other project duties as needed.
  • Perform systems walkdowns to identify deficiencies and ensure scope compliance to design and plant requirements, such as structural inspections, drainage, infrastructure, etc.
  • Develop and review design packages to ensure that project requirements, engineering standards, and applicable design and building codes are met.
  • Collect, review, calculate, and interpret data to provide engineering recommendations on repairs or designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a four-year accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Successful passing of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Understanding of ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, and PIP codes and regulations.

Preferred Skills

  • Current on latest engineering methods.
  • Experience with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Understanding of industrial facilities.
  • Personal safety awareness and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to receive direction from senior engineers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-functional team environment.
  • Experience leading designers working on CAD designs.

Additional Qualifications

Note: It is not intended that candidates have all experiences listed below, but rather is a broad list that would be of added value. Candidates should be encouraged to apply if they have any of these qualifications, skills, or experiences.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in any U.S. state (Virginia preferred).
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing facility (chemical, pulp/paper, refinery, etc.).
  • Experience with structural design practices and materials (e.g., steel, concrete).
  • Experience with civil design practices and materials (e.g., subsurface pipes, paving, drainage).
  • Experience with building code requirements (e.g., fire ratings, egress).
  • Use of subsurface utility locators (e.g., Ground Penetration Radar, Pipe & Cable locator).
  • Experience in 3D modeling utilizing AutoCAD and/or CADWorx Structure software to create 3D models and drawings.
  • Experience with Finite Element Software, such as Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are mostly office-based while working on a computer. Fieldwork will be required as needed, including walking, climbing ladders, stairs, and platforms to measure or verify conditions in an operating chemical plant. Fire-resistant uniforms are provided, but some areas require additional PPE such as acid suits and shields.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $76,000–$114,000 annually. We offer a range of market-competitive total rewards that include periodic pay rate adjustments based on market competitiveness.
