Civil Structural Designer

Permanent, full-time non-exempt position located in Pasadena, TX with a hybrid schedule. Standard workweek is Monday through Friday.

About the Role

Execute civil and structural design efforts for heavy industrial facilities with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include organizing, planning, and mentoring junior designers and draftsmen.

Responsibilities

• Ensure design compliance with client/company specifications, codes, safety, and OSHA regulations.
• Develop civil/structural 3D models and 2D extractions using AutoCAD and CADWorx with minimal supervision.
• Apply knowledge of civil and structural material specifications to ensure finished drawings include all information required for material purchase, fabrication, and construction.
• Perform fieldwork to collect design information and verify designs for tie-ins, function, and clearances to existing facilities.
• Provide field support for engineering during construction as assigned.
• Check and back-check drawings produced by drafting personnel.
• Collaborate with designers and engineers across disciplines to create multi-discipline design packages for construction forces.
• Work with clients to resolve problems.
• Adhere to company policies outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook, H+M Safety Manual, and OSHA Safety rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the design lead or department manager.
• Identify and recommend work process improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of AutoCAD and/or CADWorx experience in heavy industrial projects.
• Experience using 3D laser scans (Leica Jetstream) as a modeling and design tool.
• Ability to perform job walks to define civil/structural scope of work and complete projects with minimal supervision.
• Good understanding and efficiency with standard design and drafting practices.
• Basic knowledge of the technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with drafting, design, and 3D modeling.
• Code and plant-specific standard knowledge/comprehension (e.g., AISC steel detailing, ACI, Process Industry Practices (PIP)).
• Experience using Bluebeam to check and redline drawings.

Physical Requirements

• Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Sit for long periods of time.
• Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.

Environment

Most work time is spent in an office or home office environment. Occasional visits to job sites may be required.
