Position Summary

The Civil Superintendent at McAlvain Construction is responsible for overseeing complex civil construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership & Management: Direct and oversee all on-site civil construction activities, develop and maintain detailed project schedules, coordinate and supervise civil site personnel, and implement project procedures and standards.

  • Safety & Quality Assurance: Administer and enforce safety programs, conduct safety meetings and trainings, implement and monitor quality control procedures, and foster a proactive safety culture.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Regularly meet with project managers, field and office staff, subcontractors, clients, and design professionals, conduct site meetings, document progress, and foster strong relationships.

  • Financial & Resource Management: Monitor project budget and costs, manage equipment and material logistics, and ensure accurate documentation and productivity tracking.

  • Mentorship & Development: Mentor and provide technical assistance to foremen, journeymen, and laborers, support field superintendents and foremen, and identify opportunities for personal development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience as a Superintendent in civil construction, with a strong background in heavy equipment, earthwork, mass excavation, trenching, wet utilities, traffic control, and paving.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering civil projects on time and within budget.

  • Demonstrated expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.

  • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations and a proven commitment to job site safety.

  • Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to analyze problems, make sound decisions, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint Vista), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), and scheduling software is a plus.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus, but not required with extensive relevant experience.
