Responsibilities
- Conduct intake with charging parties regarding Chapter 4112 of Ohio Revised Code via letter, telephone, or in-person to provide general information for submitting charges of alleged discrimination.
- Prepare charge affidavits and intake interview forms; evaluate forms to determine jurisdiction under Chapter 4112 (e.g., employment, public accommodation, credit) and define basis of discrimination (e.g., race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap, age, or ancestry).
- Investigate single-issue charges of discrimination (excluding housing discrimination and sexual harassment), gather evidence, and conduct onsite and/or fact-finding conferences with complainants, witnesses, and respondents.
- Investigate cases of moderately difficult nature (e.g., multiple bases of discrimination involving employers, businesses, unions, public accommodations, credit agencies, and higher education institutions).
- Counsel complainants, interview respondents and witnesses, collect information, testimony, records, and other documentation related to discrimination complaints.
- Maintain a satisfactory level of production to meet contractual obligations established by the agency and federal funding sources.
- Contact witnesses and respondents, handle depositions, obtain documents as evidence, prepare subpoenas, and verify documentation authenticity.
- Analyze all material and data relative to the case and submit preliminary information or prepare reports of findings for submission to a supervisor.
- Operate a personal computer/video display terminal to enter, retrieve, and generate reports or other materials as needed.
- Perform clerical tasks related to investigation and follow-up (e.g., respond to inquiries, copy records, update case files).
- Assist in preparing conciliation agreements, consent orders, and settlement agreements.
- Respond to public inquiries by telephone or in writing, compile and evaluate information, update files, schedule conferences, and prepare reports for reconsideration requests.
- Assist in training new civil rights investigators and participate in establishing investigative procedures for the unit.
- Attend training, seminars, and required meetings.
Requirements
- Completion of associate program coursework or undergraduate core coursework in human resources, business administration, public administration, liberal arts, or a related field of study.
- Three months of training or experience in investigation methods and techniques.
- Three months of training or experience in interviewing.
- Three months of training or experience in human relations, public relations, or equivalent experience dealing with the general public.
- Three months of training or experience in the operation of a personal computer/video display terminal.

Pay
$24.88 to $31.47 per hour
