About the role

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Highway/Roadways) to join our Transportation team in Nashville, TN. This is an exciting opportunity to work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges locally and worldwide. You will be involved in a variety of engineering tasks, including planning, design, and maintenance of large-scale infrastructure projects. Under the guidance of professional engineers, architects, and senior technical staff, you will provide design and engineering services for highways, expressways, and major road networks.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineering services for highways, expressways, and major road networks
  • Preparation of right-of-way plans, detailed roadway designs, drainage, floodplain management, and intersection improvements
  • Utilize CADD to prepare various engineering drawings, layouts, and models to communicate project details in accordance with established standards and procedures
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, utility locates, and surveyors to meet stringent requirements and address maintenance and improvement needs
  • Assist in providing technical and operational support for exposure to highway engineering principles, standards, and practices
  • Support project delivery for key clients, including design, environmental, and procurement processes
  • Work on various related highway disciplines such as stormwater management, green infrastructure, utilities, and structures
  • Progress from basic design work assignments to more complex projects while working with a technical team
  • Manage time and responsibilities effectively to maintain a high standard of work and deliver successful project outcomes

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Coursework related to transportation
  • Previous design intern experience
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months (preferred)
  • Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design software (MicroStation/InRoads or AutoCAD/Civil 3D)
  • Ability to utilize design manuals as needed
  • Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future
