Civil Engineering Intern (Aviation) - Summer 2027

About the Role

RS&H is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for our Airfield Team in our Gahanna, OH (Greater Columbus Area) office. The Aviation Engineering Intern will collaborate with and be mentored by airfield engineers, assisting in the design and construction of runways, taxiways, terminals, Federal Aviation Administration Navigation Aids (FAA NAVAIDs), airport lighting systems, and a variety of airport support facilities.

The selected candidate will work on a wide range of airport projects that combine innovative airside and landside design with a strong knowledge of technical standards to exceed client expectations and provide cost-effective solutions. This role offers hands-on experience in long-term airport planning, detailed engineering design, and construction administration, including grading, drainage, pavement geometry, and construction phasing.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and possess excellent communication, analysis, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine calculations requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles
• Prepare and revise plan documents and details
• Calculate and review quantities
• Collect and prepare data for evaluation
• Perform engineering tasks using computer-assisted engineering software and equipment
• Support field inspection assignments
• Provide support to engineering and project management associates

Requirements

• Current student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at an ABET-accredited university
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously
• Strong work ethic aligning with the company’s mission and core values

Preferred Qualifications

• 2.5 GPA or above
• AutoCAD experience
• Specific interest in airports and the aviation industry
• Interest in working on aviation projects
