About the role
The Civil Engineering Department at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) program beginning in Fall 2027. The department is particularly interested in candidates who bring forward-thinking perspectives to construction engineering and management and professional practice.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction engineering and management and related civil engineering areas.
- Establish an active scholarly agenda, pursuing externally funded research and applied projects, mentoring student research, collaborating with industry and academic partners, and professional practice.
- Contribute to curriculum development and support the continued advancement of hands-on, industry-connected learning experiences.
- Participate in department, college, and university service activities.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field, by the date of appointment.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence or strong teaching interest in engineering.
- Evidence of ongoing scholarly research in fields relevant to construction engineering and management, or evidence of professional practice.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field, by the start date of the position. The Ph.D. degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
- Preferred/Desired Qualifications: Expertise in areas aligned with the construction industry, such as BIM/VDC, construction engineering and management, AI-integrated construction management, sustainable construction, construction automation, smart infrastructure, lean construction, project controls, construction safety, or infrastructure asset management. A minimum of one year of professional practice in fields such as infrastructure delivery, project management, or construction engineering. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Design-Build Professional (DBIA) certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or other relevant professional credentials. Evidence of continued growth and effectiveness in teaching or instructional experience in higher education. Evidence of continued growth in scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated success in professional practice.
