About the role

The successful candidate will bring with them expertise or an openness to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all of our students. They will teach courses in Civil Engineering, as well as in the Common Engineering Core, and Construction Management. The position requires a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by August 17, 2027. Professional experience and the ability to obtain, or possession of, an active Professional Engineer (PE–Civil) license are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Civil Engineering, Common Engineering Core, and Construction Management.
  • Conduct independent research, publish papers, and collaborate with local industrial partners.
  • Develop and advise students in the Civil Engineering program.
  • Assist with curriculum development, program outreach, and administrative tasks.
  • Engage in community and campus-wide committees and activities.
  • Advise students and assist with their academic and personal development.
  • Perform teaching assignments at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by August 17, 2027.
  • Professional experience and an active Professional Engineer (PE–Civil) license are highly desirable.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community engagement that prepares them to contribute to the University’s commitment to diversity and excellence.
  • A record of scholarly activity.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to student success, collegiality, inclusive pedagogy, and effective mentoring of a diverse student population.
  • Ability to teach in various areas of Civil Engineering, including engineering mechanics, structures, environmental and sustainability, water resources, or construction engineering and management.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary or emerging fields in Civil Engineering or Engineering Education.

Benefits

Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization. Anticipated salary: $94,356-$101,124.
