About the role
This position is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Responsibilities
- Designing structural aspects of flood control structures such as floodwalls, closure gates, cofferdams, pump stations, and surge barriers.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and performing structural assessments to integrate various aspects of flood control projects in the structural design.
- Developing and reviewing structural contract plans and specifications of flood control structures for constructibility and compliance with established policies and regulations.
- Renders advice regarding design of all structural features of work.
- Drafts design memoranda or other reports covering structural design for civil works projects with full justification of all data compiled in connection with the reports.
- Drafts interoffice memoranda and correspondence between the section and other organizational segments and higher authority.
- Coordinates structural design with the functions of other organizational segments, conferring on such matters as survey and soil boring data, extent of damages to existing structures which must be redesigned, special provisions to be included in contract specifications, and cost and material estimates.
- Negotiates agreements with A/E firms to resolve technical problems where there are conflicting opinions among individuals who are themselves expert in the field.
Requirements
- One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Designing structural aspects of flood control structures such as floodwalls, closure gates, cofferdams, pump stations, and surge barriers, AND 2) Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and performing structural assessments to integrate various aspects of flood control projects in the structural design, AND 3) Developing and reviewing structural contract plans and specifications of flood control structures for constructibility and compliance with established policies and regulations.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer: The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain license/registration as a Professional Engineer. This license/registration must be in good standing and issued by any one of the 50 states or its territories.
