About the role

This position is only open to Colorado state residents. New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

Responsibilities

  • Administer highway construction contracts and oversee transportation projects from construction through completion as CDOT's authorized representative.
  • Lead and coordinate contractors, consultants, and project staff to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Inspect construction activities, monitor project schedules and expenditures, and document daily project progress.
  • Verify the quality of installed materials and ensure compliance with project specifications, departmental standards, and contract requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with CDOT staff, contractors, consultants, utility owners, government agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Cookordination project staffing, consultant services, and day-to-day construction activities to support successful project delivery.
  • Communicate with project partners, elected officials, and the traveling public regarding construction projects and related activities.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, schedules, and cost information to help ensure projects are accurate, constructible, and ready for advertisement.
  • Develop construction schedules and project budget documentation for upcoming transportation projects.
  • Prioritize work, coordinate project activities, and support the successful delivery of assigned projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Engineers in Training, technical staff, and other project team members while continuing to develop project management and leadership skills.

    Requirements

    • At least six (6) years of experience with a primary focus in construction project management.
    • A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least six (6) years.
    • Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in construction management, engineering, engineering technology or another field of study related to the duties of this position.
    • Experience with a primary focus in construction project management will be considered.

    • Experience: At least six (6) years of experience with a primary focus in construction project management.
    • Education: A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least six (6) years.
    • Preferred Qualifications: The exceptional applicant will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following: Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section; Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position; Highest work/personal ethics and integrity; Working knowledge of engineering processes, theories, laws, principles, conceptual models, and best practices;Experience with transportation engineering construction and/or design projects;Consultant/contract management experience;Some experience with the CDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, CDOT Construction Manual, CDOT Design Manual, CDOT M&S Standard Plans, CDOT Field Materials Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) ,and Method of Handling Traffic; Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and projects in a demanding environment; Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments; Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner; Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders with sensitivity to their needs, priorities, promises made and commitments; Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills; Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi-tasking ability; Excellent reasoning, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving ability; Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, both written and oral; Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy; Passion for safety; Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Gmail and Google Applications, SAP, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.

    Work Environment

    Primarily 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM work hours, Monday – Friday Required to operate CDOT Vehicles Travel required during work hours throughout the Region to meetings, to conduct site visits as necessary during design; daily travel to construction sites during construction Required to work in a variety of weather condition and in close proximity to high speed traffic

    • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.
    • A current valid driver’s license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.
