Civil Engineer – Mid Level (Hybrid)
About the role
This position supports project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments, primarily focused on design for mining and industrial site development, with opportunities to support other sectors as needed.
Responsibilities
- Project planning and management
- Civil design and analysis
- CADD and Civil 3D modeling
- Preparation of construction plans, specifications, and spreadsheets
- Coordination with multidisciplinary teams
- Site grading and layout design
- Design of buried utilities
- Hydrologic and hydraulic calculations
- Report writing and large report support
- Construction cost estimating and construction management and observation
Requirements
Your Impact – Key Responsibilities
Technical knowledge: experience with the preparation of plans and specifications, analyzing alternatives, and developing quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
Project management: proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budget. Planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
Staff development: support the growth and development of team members.
About The Opportunity
Hybrid or remote: this position can be based out of Barr's Hibbing, Minnesota, office. A hybrid work arrangement may be considered, allowing time split between the office and a home office.
Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites.

Qualifications
- Education: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Experience: 5 or more years of related work experience.
- Software: experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Civil 3D.
- Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year.
- Driver’s license: possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills.

Pay
Anticipated range of $82,000–$98,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
