Civil Engineer III

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically skilled Civil Engineer III to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of complex civil engineering projects across a variety of client and project types. This role oversees large-scale site development projects, leads project teams, serves as Design Lead or Engineer of Record, and ensures the successful execution of construction documents and engineering solutions. The Civil Engineer III provides advanced technical expertise in drainage design, site development, utility systems, and jurisdictional code compliance while collaborating closely with clients, architects, engineers, and internal teams.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, project management, and communication skills, along with the ability to manage budgets, mentor staff, and deliver high-quality, technically sound solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a client or client team (1-5 staff) on most project types or major portions of large-scale development civil design.
• Research jurisdictional codes and assess their impact on site designs.
• Work independently on most client and project types with minimal to no oversight.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all aspects of civil engineering design, including full drainage design of detention/retention systems and design of site retaining walls and other structural site elements.
• Serve as Design Lead or Engineer of Record, unless in a strictly technical role.
• Train employees on company standards, drafting techniques, and technical questions related to civil engineering design and national standards.
• Collaborate with architects and other engineers to develop construction documents based on client requirements, including project management and construction administration functions.
• Perform high-level quality control of projects for final review by the Engineer of Record.
• Maintain direct client contact, unless in a strictly technical role.
• Establish project budgets and ensure financial success of projects, unless in a strictly technical role.
• Serve as Engineer of Record on more complex projects, with approval from a Director or Executive.
• Write specifications for any project type.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Licensed in more than 5 states.
• Broad experience in multiple client and/or project types or deep expertise in a single project type or client.
• Ability to manage 0-5 staff.
