About the Role

The City is recruiting for multiple Civil Engineer III positions across several departments, including the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), Department of Environmental Services (ENV), and Department of Design and Construction (DDC). These roles support critical infrastructure projects, including storm water management, environmental quality, and capital improvement programs.

What You Will Do

  • Assist with professional engineering projects related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Storm Water Management Program
  • Plan, design, construction management, product evaluation, research & development, system optimization, database management, and Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping
  • Perform routine to moderately complex professional engineering work under general supervision
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct all technical and administrative activities of simple projects assigned
  • Assist higher level engineers on more complex projects and tasks
  • Perform professional engineering work under general supervision including contract administration and compliance oversight for various facets of construction projects
  • Plan and design civil/structural engineering projects
  • Plan, organize, and manage assigned Capital Improvement Program (CIP) funded projects
  • May participate in periodic cross training and supplementary work activities within the division to comply with regulatory obligations

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

Education Requirement: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.

Experience Requirement: Two year(s) of non-registered professional civil engineering experience.

License Requirement: Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.

Substitution: A Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for one year of non-registered professional civil engineering experience.

Non-qualifying Experience: Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Work experience while in an engineering student intern position will not be creditable as equivalent to professional engineering experience.

Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Civil engineering principles and practices
  • Engineering mathematics and mechanics of materials
  • Topographic surveying principles and practices
  • Structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and sanitary engineering concepts as they apply to civil engineering

Ability to:

  • Perform civil engineering design work and supervise construction and inspection activities
  • Analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features
  • Supervise a small group of subordinate employees
  • Prepare engineering and inspection reports

Pay

  • Department of Facility Maintenance: $6,721 to $7,533 per month
  • Department of Environmental Services, Environmental Quality Division: $6,721 to $7,533 per month
  • Department of Environmental Services, Office of Administrative Support and Wastewater Engineering & Construction Divisions: $6,721 to $7,752 per month
  • Department of Design and Construction, Civil Division, Construction Management Branch: $6,721 to $7,321 per month
  • Department of Design and Construction, Civil Division, Design Branch: $6,721 to $8,690 per month
  • Department of Design and Construction, Facilities Division: $6,721 to $7,533 per month

Salaries are commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.
