About the role

Dennis Group Civil Engineers focus on land development and infrastructure for industrial projects, designing and building new food and beverage process facilities. Civil Engineers are part of the Building Systems department and collaborate closely with Structural Engineers and Architects/Designers. They also engage in bid evaluation and initial contact with local contractors across multiple project locations. The role involves tackling engineering challenges that require strong calculation skills, and experienced engineers are expected to hold a Professional Engineer License (PE).

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic design tasks, including preparation of permit applications, drawings, and CAD work.
  • Assist with procurement tasks such as bid list development, contractor initial contact, bid tabulation, and preliminary bid evaluation.
  • Develop basic drawing literacy, understanding discipline-specific plan elements and navigating sets of drawings.
  • Perform construction administration tasks, including submittal review.
  • Develop site basis of design documents and parking lot layouts that satisfy development ordinances and regulations.
  • Conduct analysis and detailed design of institutional, industrial, and commercial building sites.
  • Determine land use characteristics and assign runoff coefficients; calculate times of concentration.
  • Perform pre-development hydrologic analysis for simple sites and understand BMPs for EPSC.
  • Prepare storm drainage reports, engineering calculations, and engineering sketches.
  • Design land development plans, site grading, utility, and drainage for planning, permitting, and construction of food and beverage processing facilities.
  • Review drawings and coordinate with the project team.
  • Prepare bid packages and provide construction administration.
  • Develop bidder lists and perform bid tabulation.
  • Visit project sites to observe field conditions, evaluate design constraints, and resolve problems.
  • Research civil engineering materials and best practices.
  • Support talent growth within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience or schooling in civil engineering tasks involving industrial construction projects (e.g., land development, building pads, and infrastructure for new builds).
  • 0-3 years of experience or schooling in drainage, grading, and utility design for industrial or commercial projects.
  • 0-3 years of experience or schooling in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed (approximately 25%).
  • EIT Registration is desirable.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
