About the role

AECOM’s West Region is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer to join the Southwest Dams team. Our strong local presence opens the doors to significant and interesting projects in the mining, dams, and power sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of regional mine sites, power plants, and dams.
  • Generate conceptual layouts/designs and perform calculations/analyses for channels, culverts, headwalls, detention ponds, operating ponds, spillways, rock drains, check dams, and haulage/access/circulation roads.
  • Designs incorporate erosion control features, geosynthetics, and exposed or sub-surface piping.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using HEC-HMS and/or HEC-RAS.
  • Develop quantity and cost estimates, and alternative assessments.
  • Prepare drafts of portions of technical proposals, reports, regulatory agency permits, as well as less complex external and internal documents.
  • Prepare reservoir and pond designs including geosynthetic lining, leak detection/collection systems, breach analysis, outlet works, and spillways.
  • Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control.
  • Intermittently engage on regional projects with other offices in the region.
  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS in Civil Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education Valid US Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within 1 year of employment.
  • Ability to travel
  • Experience and familiarity with the following programs: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D/2D, AutoCAD Civil3D, ArcGIS

Qualifications

Skills

Strong civil, hydrologic and hydraulic skill sets to work with our multidiscipline teams to deliver challenging water resource projects related to civil design, dam design, hydraulic design of spillways, development of surface water models, dam breach studies, development of hydrologic models (frequency and extreme storm events), and associated reporting.

Pay

USD 85000 - USD 110000 - yearly
