About the job:
The functional areas and responsibilities of a Civil Engineer in Training are as follows:
- Design and Planning: Collaborate with senior engineers to develop preliminary and detailed design plans for land development projects, including grading, drainage, roadways, utilities, and stormwater management systems.
- Site Analysis: Conduct site investigations and assessments to gather data on site conditions, topography, soil properties, and environmental factors that may impact the design process.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assist in preparing permit applications and ensure that designs adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards related to land development and environmental protection.
- CAD and Software: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools to create accurate and comprehensive engineering drawings, schematics, and plans.
- Project Coordination: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including architects, landscape architects, surveyors, and contractors, to integrate different aspects of the development project into a cohesive design.
- Quantity Estimation: Assist in preparing cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment required for project execution and maintain budgetary awareness throughout the project lifecycle.
- Construction Support: Provide support during the construction phase by responding to requests for information (RFIs), reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits to ensure adherence to the approved design.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including design calculations, reports, correspondence, and other project-related materials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
- EIT certification REQUIRED
- Proven experience (1-3 years) in land development engineering, including site design, grading, drainage, and utility layout.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, codes, regulations, and standards related to land development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Problem-solving aptitude and the ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative solutions.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with stormwater management and erosion control practices is a plus.
