About the role
The role of a Civil Designer or EIT is to work independently and as a team member on a wide range of exciting projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Project Manager. Projects include commercial, industrial, residential, and municipal work across the state of New Mexico and within Arizona and Texas as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform and assist with all aspects of civil engineering design including layout/geometry, grading, drainage, paving, water, sewer, and erosion control.
- Prepare complete submission packages, supporting calculations, quantity and cost estimates, project schedules, and other duties.
- Aid project manager/project engineer with consultant and project team coordination.
- Perform planning activities, including project research, assessment of project feasibility.
- Utilizes CAD in development of three-dimensional models of civil systems.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on projects.
- Aids in the development of new standards and processes for the civil group.
Requirements
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D experience in land development, utility, and roadway design.
- Thorough understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self-starter who can work independently and with a team.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Knowledge and experience with local agency and industry applicable codes.
- General understanding of project document production.
- Strong knowledge of civil systems and industry standards.
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with a multi-disciplinary team and clients with varied knowledge of the development process.
- Possesses excellent time-management skills.
- Thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
Qualifications
- Civil Designer – Minimum of 5 years’ experience with AutoCAD and development plan design.
- EIT – Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree, Engineer in Training Certification, and CAD experience.
- A local project resume and experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in site and roadway, drainage, grading, erosion and sediment control, and utility design is considered an asset.
